The nephron is the microscopic structural and functional unit of the kidney. It is composed of a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule. The renal corpuscle consists of a tuft of capillaries called a glomerulus and an encompassing Bowman's capsule. The renal tubule extends from the capsule. The nephron is the fundamental functional unit of the kidney and can be thought of as a long tube of variable thickness which winds a set path through the kidney. Most of the macroscopic physiological function of the kidney is simply the result of the combined action of nearly a million individual nephronic units.

Nov 11, 2017 · A trivia quiz called label the kidney diagram. The human kidneys house millions of tiny filtration units called nephrons which enable our body to retain the vital nutrients and excrete the unwanted or excess molecules as well as metabolic wastes from the body. Tubular secretion occurs throughout the different parts of the nephron, from the proximal convoluted tubule to the collecting duct at the end of the nephron. Hydrogen Ion Secretion The tubular secretion of H+ and NH 4 + from the blood into the tubular fluid is involved in blood pH regulation.
The human body has two kidneys, one on either side of the middle back, just under the ribs. Each kidney contains thousands of small filters called nephrons. Each nephron has a mesh of capillaries, connecting it to the body’s blood supply. Around 180 litres of blood sieve through the kidneys every day. The main functions of the kidney include:
